G Adventures
A New Era of Internal Comms
I returned to G Adventures in 2023 in the Internal Comms Specialist role, this time taking more ownership of internal storytelling and leading content creation in a new chapter of G’s internal voice in the post-COVID era. Like pre-COVID, I still create comms that keep global employees informed and engaged — except now it’s a much smaller team doing much bigger work…

How might we…
inject fun into information?
help boost employees’ business acumen through storytelling?
surprise and delight with comms?
support employees’ sense of community and belonging at G Adventures through storytelling?
get the people talking?

G Adventures’ Internal Voice 2.0
When I returned to G Adventures, I knew I was returning to a familiar, playful voice. I spent the first few weeks back just reconnecting with voices around G Nation in person and over Slack. I scheduled meetings with stakeholders in G’s internal voice: from HR, to Community Operations, to Marketing, to G’s founder Bruce Poon Tip.
We settled on these 3 words to describe G’s internal voice: Irreverent, Spontaneous, Innovative. These 3 words would guide content creation on top of G’s ever-present playfulness and humour.
The folks in Marketing once said that Marketing is the front yard, and Employee Engagement is the back yard — we get to be edgier.
Where we tell stories
I quickly realized that I would have to broaden my repertoire of storytelling to engage this new audience. Here are all the different media we use in internal comms at G Adventures:
Written word: Slack, email communications
Visuals: graphic design, gifs, slide decks
Videos & music
Town Halls
By varying our methods of storytelling, we’re keeping things fresh and catering to users of all learning preferences.
